About Julie
Julie — or Teacher Jules, as most of her students end up calling her — was born and raised in Britain and lives in Devon, in the south-west of England. She is TEFL certified, and has taught more than 5,000 hours of English online to learners of all ages and abilities from all over the world.
Alongside her English language teaching, she works to the British primary curriculum, which means children learning with her aren't just picking up vocabulary — they're following the same structure and expectations a child in a British primary school would.
What she is genuinely good at, though, is the nervous ones. Children who freeze. Children who have decided, somewhere along the way, that speaking English in front of someone is a test they're going to fail.
Her approach is calm, gentle and approachable — her own three words — but the lessons themselves are lively. There is talking, and often singing, games, and a good deal of laughter. She works on the principle that children learn more when they are happy and relaxed, while keeping enough structure that real learning is happening underneath the fun.
And the first thing she tells every new student is that mistakes are fine. She corrects gently, because she believes that's how children actually learn, and she makes a point of finding something to praise in every lesson.

Mistakes Are Allowed — Said Out Loud
Every new student is told, in the first lesson, that getting things wrong is completely fine. It sounds small. For a child who has been holding back out of fear of embarrassment, it changes everything.
Fun, But Structured
Talking, singing, games and laughter — but with a clear plan running underneath. Children learn far more when they're relaxed, and Julie's lessons are built so the two aren't in conflict.
Gentle Correction
Errors are corrected, but kindly and in the moment, without stopping the flow of the conversation or making a child feel caught out.
